cuba: the paradise.

Wednesday, 30 January 2013

as promised.

we spent a magical week in basking in sunshine and swimming with brightly coloured fish, while we were told that the uk was suffering from a severe snowfall.  it seemed a million miles away from the paradise we were surrounded by.

the resort, paradisus rio de oro, was nestled away in a quiet little corner of cuba, on a beach called playa esmeralda.  the beach was beautiful with fine white sand and clear turquoise waters.  and a coral reef ran alongside the cliff with lots of tropical fish and great snorkelling to be had.

the resort was really spread out with the rooms being in small two storey villas.  the grounds were beautifully kept and fresh hibiscus flowers were placed all around the resort every morning.

amile, who made us fresh omelettes every morning.

we spent days just laid in the canopied beds passing the day by reading, snoozing, snorkelling and wandering off intermittently in search of food.  it was exactly what my mind and my body needed and i was so calm and content.  it has been many many years since i last spent any length of time just relaxing and letting myself enjoy the passing day.

the place was so stunning, and it is so easy to forget what lies beyond the grounds of the resort.  but it was important to me that we didn't take for granted what we were so lucky to be able to enjoy.  so we booked a tour around the cities of holguín and gibara.  i'll be back with a post on that soon.  it was obviously far more interesting too because there are lots more pictures for that one.
