art in the gardens.

Sunday, 8 September 2013

the tenth annual sheffield art in the gardens took place this weekend and i popped along to help out my friend tommy, of tommy and zac, on her stall.  thankfully, the weather remained dry and the sun even made a few appearances.

art in the gardens is an annual event that takes place in sheffield's beautiful botanical gardens.  the event showcases 350 of the finest artists and crafters from the city and local region.  it is a really great event and a wonderful opportunity to meet and chat with the talented folk behind the beautiful pieces of work that are seen in various galleries and shops as well as on the internet.

here are a few favourite stallholders:

firstly, of course, tommy & zac.  tommy is a lovely and very talented lady who makes some really beautiful fabric goods and vintage style jewellery.  everything is handmade by herself (zac is actually her neighbour's cat!).  she was easily our bestseller back in my shop.

next is helen, of robin's room, who makes the most beautiful hand printed fabrics and soft furnishings inspired by british nature and wildlife.  everything begins as hand-drawn pictures that are then hand carved into lino blocks then printed individually.  can you imagine how long the curtain on the left takes?!

and i also met the lovely sue and mel.  no, not that sue and mel, but sue and mel of sue candy, maker of beautiful ceramics who had travelled from hebden bridge for the event.

sue's work and general aesthetic is so clean and simple and caught my eye immediately.  i love the calm feel of her grey, blue and white colour scheme.  i was particularly loving the mustard and chutney pots with the slate lids and the natural texture of the slate against the smooth clean white of the porcelain.

i hope i have given you some christmas shopping ideas.  i am feeling newly inspired and itching to get back into the crafty world.
